Hayes Anderson is owned and managed by John Hayes (left), who has spent the past 30 years as a marketing and communications consultant. After starting his career as a journalist in 1976, John has run marketing/PR consultancy businesses since 1983, initially as Managing Director of Michael Forsyth Associates Ltd and then Joint Managing Director of Underline Communications Ltd from 1987 to 1995. He now manages his own consultancy, formed with his wife Griselda Anderson MA in 1995.

John Hayes has specialised in providing PR and marketing services for the logistics and transport sector since 1982, when he began working as a consultant to one of the original third-party vendor networks – Tate & Lyle Transport. This business was acquired by the Rockwood group in the mid-1980s, and John then took over responsibility for all Rockwood's PR – including the freight management (Mercury Airfreight and Walford Meadows) and logistics (Rockwood Distribution Services and Bond's Delivery Services) divisions.

In 1992, John became an in-house consultant at Tibbett & Britten Group plc – and went on to head up its External Relations department for over a decade as Group Public Relations Director. During this period Tibbett & Britten's annual revenues increased from £232 million to £1,633 million – while its workforce rose from 7,400 to 36,000.

In 2004 he joined Exel as an in-house communications consultant working in the Group Marketing department. Following Exel's takeover by Deutsche Post World Net in December 2005, he then continued to work in the Global Marketing department of DHL, a Deutsche Post company, in 2006–07. He joined LINPAC Group in a communications consultancy role in early 2008 and headed-up the Group's external relations function for four years. During this period (2011) he also became head of communications at The Keswick Enterprises Group – the specialist freight, logistics and packing private equity group.
